Measuring for a Santa Suit

Measuring for your custom Santa suit, and or Santa Robe, is a bit different from measuring for a regular suit.  Because it is custom-made, extra care, and extra measurements are necessary to get exactly what you need.

In working with Adele’s of Hollywood, I came up with the following information, chart and photos that will guide you in getting exactly what is needed for the tailoring of your suit or robe.

The chart below shows the areas where your measurements are needed.  following the chart are my instructions and some photos to assist you in taking all of your measurements. Plus, at the bottom of the page I have added a link so that you can print out a copy of the chart to work with.

*For the best fit we need to have all of your measurements.  If you wear padding, we need to know your waist measurements when wearing your padding or cooling vest.   We recommend that you be a little generous with your measurements.  You can always do some fine tailoring of any suit if there is enough material.  If you try to cut it too close, you won’t have room to move or to compensate should your measurements change.

*To insure that you have the correct measurements, have someone assist you and between the two of you , double check all measurements.

A.  Start with your neck measurement.  Measure the circumference of the neck just above the base and around your Adam’s apple. Place two fingers between your neck and the tape measure to give yourself a little breathing room. The number of inches on the tape measure is your neck size

B.  The arm/sleeve length is measured from the center of the back of the neck, across the shoulder and down the outside of the arm to the wrist.

Bend your arm slightly. Start at the vertebrae in the center of the neck where the neck meets the shoulder. Run the measuring tape across the shoulder, down to the elbow, then to the break in the wrist. The number of inches is your arm size

C.  The Chest measurements is quite easy.  Place the tape well up under your arms and over the shoulder blades in back, and the chest in front . Look to make sure the tape is approximately horizontal to the ground. Breathe normally, and have your friend insert a finger between the tape and your body to ensure enough ease. The number of inches is your chest measurement.

D.  For the waist measurement, Measure around the belly button area or the broadest section of your waist.   Not your belt line or below the belly.   The number of inches is your correct waist size.
NOTE: Dress slacks and formal wardrove should always be one to two sizes larger than jeans.

E.  Your inseam measurement is very simply the length from the bottom of the crotch stitching—directly between your legs—down to the bottom of the leg opening. (hint: without shoes on, your hem should just touch the floor).

Or, take a pair of pants that fits you well   Measure from the crotch seam to the cuff.  The number of inches is your inseam.

F.  The Robe/Cloak measurement (Often called the over-arm measurement) is the distance around the outside of your arms at the largest part of your torso. With arms at your sides, measure around the broadest part of the shoulders and upper arms while keeping the tape measure level at all times.  Place two fingers between the tape and your body. The number of inches is your over-arm measurement.

G.  The Robe/Cloak length is measured from top of your collar, the back of the neck, to the floor.  Your robe or cloak will be tailored to about six inches from the floor, so it will not be dragged on the floor.

H.  Your hat measurement is the circumference around your head.
